The Greek god of war was Ares. The Romans’ god was Mars. The Norse worshiped Tyr. And the French have Yasmina Reza. Maybe that last one is a stretch, but Yasmina is the award-winning actress and playwright of the 2008 Tony Award-winning play God of Carnage. When two sets of parents of feuding 11-year-olds meet up to squash the beef in a civilized manner, it appears the adults are in control. But as the rum flows and the evening wears on, the parents devolve into childish accusations, fighting and chaos. The show explores the theme of what it means to live in a “civilized” society that only serves one’s self-interest.
