Grammy Award winning symphonic music composer Mason Bates is also an electronic music DJ. Through his original work, he combines those seemingly incompatible pursuits into something fresh and new. This performance with the Redwood Symphony will feature Bates’ four-movement work, Alternative Energy. The piece features car parts as musical instruments and includes a major electronica solo. The program also includes Emmanuel Chabrier’s landmark 1883 work “España” and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s always-popular Violin Concerto, composed in 1878. Redwood Symphony’s Music Director Eric Kujawsky conducts the orchestra, and Karen Bentley Pollick is a featured violinist.
