Mercy Terrace Rocks at Playback Studios

This Friday the 13th arrives in the midst of flooding coasts and sliding hills. Logic might say “batten the hatches,” but emotion definitely calls for a night out in a good room rattled by drums. Bay Area alt-rock trio Mercy Terrace merges a ’90s grunge inspired aesthetic with lyricism rooted in anxieties particular to the 2020s. As they weave moody distortion with unexpectedly upbeat melodies, anthems for the times take shape. In “The Cat Stays Home” off their 2022 EP Young Bloods, they sing, “I’m watching Nightmare on Elm Street and comparing the plot to my life.” Who can’t relate?
