Claiming Koko Taylor and Janis Joplin as inspirations, Otilia Donaire is a sassy and powerful singer and band leader. Her funky and big-sounding blues album, Bluesin’ it Up (2024), features personal, autobiographical lyrics. Some of the music on the new set represents new recordings of material from her 2015 EP The Queen Bee, recorded at Kid Andersen’s Greaseland Studio. The new record beefs up the core guitar-bass-keys-drums lineup with a strong horn section. For this date, the band—featuring fiery guitarist Joe Lococo—plays a full set followed by the customary pro jam.
