The Dutch EDM duo Sick Individuals brings the beat to Sunnyvale this weekend for a night of their innovative sound. Rinze “Ray” Hofstee and Joep “Jim” Smeele met in the Netherlands in 2008 and bonded quickly over their shared love of forces that might seem opposite: classical and modern music. Their diverse influences—from Swedish House Mafia to Rihanna—have proven the secret to their success. One of their biggest songs is their remix of the unforgettable Icona Pop song “I Love It,” but that hit only scratches the surface of their dark and dazzling world of dance. (AM)

Addie Mahmassani is a poet based in Santa Cruz. She holds a PhD in American Studies from Rutgers University-Newark and is currently an MFA student in creative writing at San Jose State University. There, she is a Teaching Associate as well as the lead poetry editor of Reed Magazine, California's oldest literary journal. She also surfs, sings and loves a part-sheepdog named Lou.
