.Steven W. Thrasher Discusses His Book, The Viral Underclass

Just as climate change affects the most disempowered demographics across the world in ever-more susceptible degrees, the harm viruses cause is not a question of science alone. In his timely new book, The Viral Underclass: The Human Toll When Inequality and Disease Collide, scholar and journalist Dr. Seven W. Thrasher exposes the complex intersections between individual biology and social justice. Arguing that survival of an epidemic is a social privilege in addition to a biological outcome, Dr. Thrasher’s work is helping humans reconceptualize their understanding of disease prevention in the modern era.
