Lovers of free punk shows should check out The Roughies this weekend because this band is so much damn fun live. The proof is in their 2023 album, Everywhere’s an Island!, with tracks like “Never Gets Better,” “Throbbing Mob” and “War is a Racket.” The Roughies combine hilarious yet poignant political lyrics with acoustic, pop and punk rock for an amalgamation of pure joy. They would’ve fit right in with the early punk scene among bands like The Dickies, Dead Kennedys and NOFX. Luckily, they exist in 2026, a time that is suspiciously devoid of the kind of satire that can make people laugh, think and mosh for a cause. Long live The Roughies!
