There’s not enough pop culture appreciation of gay cowboys. Brokeback Mountain was an iconic hit, but that was 20 years ago. Tyler Childers took that disregard as a personal dare and wrote the hit country tune “In Your Love,” which is about gay coal miners. Tyler, who is straight, did it to make his cousin feel included and represented in country music. (Awww!) The track marked his first time on the Billboard Hot 100. His band is solid, the guitar and keyboard solos are fun, and his growly tenor works. Opening the show is talented actor/musician Shakey Graves from Austin, who combines country, folk and rock music.
