Cava Menzies at SJZ Break Room

In her 2018 EP Balm, Bay Area-born Cava Menzies gently laments “I’m a woman…my hands are tired.” Those feeling weary from the news of the week may indeed find a balm in Menzies’ soft-but-strong melodies and soulful lyricism—the multidisciplinary musician, vocalist and artist sings of poetry and perseverance, paying tribute to Maya Angelou on “Give Me Your Hand” by transposing the legendary writer’s lines into song. Menzies and her quartet join the lineup for San Jose Jazz’s New Works Fest 2022, a series showcasing local artists that will also be available virtually via free livestreams.
