Paul Conyers has the relaxed cadence of someone casually telling a story, right up until a sharply engineered punchline reveals how much work was hiding underneath. The Sacramento-raised, East Bay-based comic won the 2020 World Series of Comedy and later landed on Moontower Comedy Festival’s “Overlooked” showcase, an unusually honest name for a show built around comics audiences should know better. His newest special, Should’ve Stayed Downstairs, leans into vivid storytelling, dry self-aggrandizement and the sort of false confidence that becomes funnier the longer he maintains it. Cody Woods and Sophia Garrow open this Sunday show.
