Actor and director Geoff Sobelle is an absurdist. Making deft and integrated use of humor, illusions, jury-rigged mechanical contraptions and an art installation aesthetic, he creates deeply surreal yet heartfelt works, performances that highlight the uncommon qualities within seemingly ordinary things. His most recent work, Food, pushes the boundaries even further with an intimate dinner party where the audience surrounds the dinner table, taking in all manner of sensory stimuli and instruction from Sobelle. He playfully promises that Food pulls the audience “directly into the mystery of how we find ourselves at this end of the salad bar.”
