Gaye Adegbalola Adds Another Page to Her Musical Career

With her former band, Saffire – The Uppity Blues Women, Gaye Adegbalola sang the “Middle Aged Blues Boogie:” “Seems that when you reach around middle age, you don’t want a final chapter, you want to write another page!” True to her lyrics, the Virginia-based singer, guitarist, teacher and activist (with roots in Harlem’s Black Power movement) has embarked on a vibrant solo career. From new originals about contemporary public figures like John Lewis and Kamala Harris to covers of the great blues women of the past who inspire her to comedic novelty songs, Adegbalola isn’t writing another page: she’s singing it.
