Manual Cinema’s Frankenstein at Stanford

In Manual Cinema’s Frankenstein, Mary Shelley’s iconic 1818 horror story gets an ethereal theatrical makeover. Inspired by vintage forms of popular entertainment, the Chicago-based performance collective crafts live performance out of shadow puppetry, cinematic techniques and music. Echoing the famously stitched-together monster, their rendition of the tale includes bits and pieces of Shelley’s biography and a special post-show invitation to take the stage and experience the puppets up-close. The show, according to The Boston Globe, contains “a surprising depth and breadth of emotion: joy, grief, terror and loneliness.” Perfect to ease one’s descent into the meditative winter months.
