Encode/Store/Retrieve in San Jose

What is memory in the digital age? What are the pros and cons of the ease with which humans save and store information? A new group exhibit at SJMA grapples with such complex questions, juxtaposing pieces from the last 60 years that deal with low-tech forms of memory production. The arising themes go far beyond the expected thoughts on speed and convenience to question ecological, biological, financial and institutional issues rooted in Silicon Valley. The digital archive is growing rapidly; it’s a good time to pause and consider the consequences.
