Hauser is one part of the duo 2Cellos—the one with “Smooth Criminal” cover fame. Known as the “Rebel with a Cello,” Hauser combines the sensibility of rock ’n’ roll and pop with the . . . cello. The result is gritty and theatrical. Yo-Yo Ma may have proved that the cello can be sexy, but Hauser takes it to a whole new level. In his latest album, Classic, he seems to breathe that rocking energy back into classical music, which will undoubtedly produce much excitement.
