Rudys can’t fail—just ask Roddy Radiation, the original guitar player for the seminal ’80s two-tone band, the Specials. Although he did too much too young, he avoided being a monkey man and got out of the concrete jungle to form his group, the Skabilly Rebels. Just like the name implies, Radiation’s newest incarnation is the dawning of a new era combining ska and rockabilly, two genres that shouldn’t go together but bring a catchy, loveable and purely unique sound. Joining them are San Francisco’s indie punk quartet the Hooks, who blend influences like the Clash and the Kinks for a style that sounds familiar with a fresh twist.
