The blues world has its own specific set of criteria to assess the quality of its practitioners. One strong indicator of a solid blues artist is winning (or placing) in the annual International Blues Challenge. Oregon-based Rae Gordon was a 2017 finalist in that competition and called out for special praise by no less a luminary than Walter Trout. Gordon fronts a powerhouse outfit that flavors its blues with soul and gospel. Sinewy guitar leads, a crack rhythm section and Gordon’s vocals deliver the goods. As is Club Fox’s custom, the band’s set will be followed by a pro jam.
