The San Jose Youth Symphony’s Philharmonic Orchestra, composed of school-aged musicians chosen from more than 650 yearly auditionees, continues its 70+ year tradition as one of the finest youth orchestras on the West Coast. Their Season Opener Concert begins with the sprightly and percussive Italian opera La Gazza Ladra Overture (The Thieving Magpie). They’ll present the Le Cid ballet suite by French composer Massenet and close with “Three Dances” from Smetana’s The Bartered Bride. Angela Liu, the 2024 Young Artists’ Competition winner, also performs Bériot’s “Scène de Ballet” for violin and orchestra.
