Loudon Wainwright III is no poser. Coming up in a folk scene that had plenty of well-to-do young men sewing patches onto their trousers and donning worn hats to sing songs about work they never did, Wainwright penned lyrics about his country club upbringing, showing what folk music sounded like when someone from a privileged background was as honest and earnest as the genre demanded. And it paid off. Loudon stood out from the crowd, and he still does—a one-of-a-kind singer-songwriter who had his first hit in 1972 and his first Grammy in 2010.
