Dr. Jerry Hiura, Steve Yamaguma and Miki Hirabayashi founded the Contemporary Asian Theater Scene in 1996 as a showcase for local Asian-American playwrights, directors, actors and stagehands, and produce annual staged readings, live comedy and music, and film screenings, including the Silicon Valley Asian Pacific FilmFest. Following last year’s inaugural event, the 2nd Annual AAPI Playwright Festival features readings of ten-minute plays and monologues by playwrights Marissa May, Jenny Nguyen Nelson, Conrad Panganiban, Lisa Marie Rollins, Kenna Tanaka and Jeffrey Lo, who’s also the evening’s artistic director, followed by a post-show discussion.
