Watching a performance of The Nutcracker this time of year is as traditional as decorating a Christmas tree. Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story of a young girl and a nutcracker doll that comes to life on Christmas Eve, the ballet debuted in 1892, and is perhaps the most adapted of all time. This production by the New Ballet, featuring the Symphony San Jose playing Tchaikovsky’s famous classical music score, is set in turn-of-the-century San Jose and includes local historical references. Performances go until Dec. 23.
Sat, Dec. 13, 2pm & 7 pm; $24-$121
