On his first comedy special, which came out this year on 800 Pound Gorilla Media, Alfred Robles takes the crowd work approach further than most, inviting audience members to step out of the dark room, and anonymity, and join him onstage, where he then continues to engage with the full crowd while interviewing his new subject, which then becomes subjects, as more people are welcomed to share his spotlight. It’s a bold and risky move, and he handles his human props as skillfully as any juggler or plate spinner. The result is engaging, at times thrilling, and always very funny. He performs until Sunday.
