Every now and then, a prodigy blues player emerges from the swamps fully formed and ready to rock. D.K. Harrell is the 27-year-old sensation from Ruston, Louisiana, whose style is born out of the church and whose piercing notes rose above the din of down-home bars and saloon joints. The indomitable force of Harrell’s playing is apparent in his latest release on Alligator Records called Talkin’ Heavy. This is the kind of mesmerizing music that Sammie, in the movie Sinners, played to conjure the spirits. D.K. Harrell is at once enigmatic, yet his career is just catching fire.
