Author Tayari Jones has written the novels Leaving Atlanta, The Untelling, Silver Sparrow and An American Marriage. Her latest book, Kin, follows two best friends from Louisiana who grew up without their mothers and were raised by their extended “kin.” After graduating high school, they go their separate ways: Annie, in search of her mother, and Vernice, to Spelman College. Hosted by Kepler’s Literary Foundation, Jones, who’s also a professor at both Cornell and Emory universities, takes part in a discussion with fellow author Natalie Baszile, whose 2014 novel Queen Sugar was adapted into the OWN TV series directed by Ava DuVernay and produced by Oprah Winfrey.
