This stage musical takes Louisa May Alcott’s familiar story and leans into what still works about it: ambition, sisterhood, heartbreak, and Jo March’s refusal to flatten herself into something smaller. Upstage Theater’s run looks like a good fit for anyone who likes classic material with big emotional swings and a score built to carry them. At two and a half hours with one intermission, it is a full evening, but the kind that earns it, especially for people who want something heartfelt without feeling dusty. Goes until May 10.
