While popular legend would have music fans believe that the punk rock of the mid ‘70s came only from London and New York. The truth is that the seeds of punk planted in the ’60s found fertile ground across America, including Southern California’s the Zeros. Launched by scion of musical royalty Javier Escovedo, the group roared out of Chula Vista in 1976 with a sound as raw and appealing as Sex Pistols or Ramones. A half century later, Escovedo still burns with the passion and conviction of the punk class of ’76. San Jose’s Backstabbers and Johnny are also on the bill.
