Considered the first modern novel, and one of the most widely translated, Miguel de Cervantes’ 17th-century epic Don Quixote follows an aging Spaniard who, after reading too many heroic and romance books, imagines that he’s a self-appointed knight. Wearing a suit of armor, and with help from his sidekick and farmer Sancho Panza, Don Quixote sets out on an imaginary adventure to restore chivalry in Spain. Like all popular classics, the story has inspired films, TV movies, musicals, operas and ballets. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Mountain View’s Western Ballet stages its own production, starring young dancers from its Youth Program. Performances go until May 23.
