Cyrano de Bergerac is truly a timeless tale. Recent(ish) film adaptations, including the Peter Dinklage-led 2021 version and Steve Martin and Daryl Hanna’s delightful Roxanne, each offers distinctive wrinkles. In their contemporary take on the classic story, Los Altos Stage Company’s unique twist is that two corners of the love triangle central to the plot are female. A woman named Cyrano, skilled with both sword and pen, crafts letters of poetic yearning and allows some dude to take the credit—and affection—she feels unable or unworthy to claim for herself. This switch will wreak tremendously fun havoc on the conceits and concepts of the classic play. Cyrano runs through May 4.
