.Herb Alpert & Lani Hall in Campbell

Among his many credits, Herb Alpert is known as the man who brought pop jazz into the homes of millions. As Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, that “band” (actually the “Wrecking Crew”) released eleven albums between ’62 and ’68; six of those went to #1 on the charts, sometimes even outselling the Beatles. In 1973, Alpert married singer Lani Hall, vocalist in one of A&M’s popular acts, Sérgio Mendes & Brasil ’66. Their “Mas Que Nada” was a hit in ’66 and earned renewed popularity when featured on the soundtrack of Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.
