Inspired by the musical and cultural sensation of Fela Kuti, Martín Perna founded Brooklyn-based afrobeat collective Antibalas in 1998. Perna went on to launch two other bands of note, Ocote Soul Sounds and Sharon Jones’ backing band The Dap Kings. Perna is also a former musical director at Carnegie Hall and an acclaimed author and lecturer at UC Berkeley. His work has been featured on more than 100 albums by a dazzling array of artists across the musical spectrum. This edition of The Hang showcases Perna’s diverse work and features a pre-show vinyl spin and post-concert discussion with the artist.
