Japan’s Melt-Banana get categorized as noise rock, and that’s probably the genre that comes closest to preparing audiences for what Melt-Banana is going to give them with some punk and electro-pop thrown in, but really Melt-Banana is just Melt-Banana, and anarchic mix of fast virtuoso shredding, furiously hard, catchy riffs, little bits of pop melody sneaking in and a frontwoman who holds nothing back. They play at a breakneck speed, locked together like they were machine driven, but they are so very human. Their diet and training regiment must be intense to be able to explode on stage the way they do. It’s exhausting just watching.
