No one has done more for the visibility and recognition of mariachi music in America than José L. Hernández. Born in Mexicali, Mexico, Hernández emigrated to the US at four years old and quickly developed an interest in music. After playing trumpet in his school music program, Hernández studied arrangement and composition at Grove School of Music. From there, he embarked on an illustrious career, toured the world, earned a Grammy nomination and infused mariachi music with innovations and much-needed publicity. Along with Mariachi Sol de México, Hernández is bringing a Merry-Achi Christmas show to the South Bay.
