Curated by Hieu Minh Nguyen, tonight’s third annual Poetry Live! welcomes Jamila Woods and Safia Elhillo. Based in Chicago, Woods is also a singer-songwriter who has released three records since 2017. She’s appeared on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, CBS This Morning, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and performed with Corinne Bailey Rae, Raphael Saadiq, Common, Chance the Rapper and Macklemore. Born in Maryland to Sudanese parents, Elhillo is a Wallace Stegner Fellow at Stanford. She has been published in various poetry volumes and collections and received numerous awards.
