San Jose Youth Symphony Season Opener Concert in San Jose

Under the artistic leadership of music director Yair Samet, one of the oldest and finest youth orchestras on the West Coast opens a splendid season of music. The San Jose Youth Symphony opens with a ravishing performance of Wagner’s Prelude to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Composer Saarthak Shankavaram leads them in a world premiere of Leela. Two winners from last season’s Young Artists’ Competition, Elspeth Luu and Claire Kim, perform famous compositions of orchestral cello and flute by Elgar and Borne. Closing the concert, these talented youth perform Borodin’s exciting Polovtsian Dances.
