Based on the Robert James Waller novel, The Bridges of Madison County tells the story of Francesca Johnson—a married woman who is swept up in a whirlwind affair while her husband and children are away at the Iowa State Fair. In the story Johnson meets National Geographic photographer Robert Kincaid, in town to document her home county’s many covered bridges. It was adapted into a 1995 film starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep. The musical came along in 2014, winning two Tony Awards.
