“Do-Re-Mi,” but make it Afrofuturistic? The Sound of (Black) Music is not to be missed. A reimagining of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic musical, the one-act concert takes familiar songs to new heights with gospel, funk, soul and Afrobeat infusions. Vocalists Brianna Thomas and Charenée Wade lead a stellar cast in a performance that is not only entertaining but also evocative of the largely erased impact of Black music on American culture. It’s a perfect way to introduce families of all ages to such themes.
