Trinh Mai’s Understory Soars into Triton Museum

In her new exhibit, Understory, artist Trinh Mai uses birds to honor the lives and experiences of Vietnamese ancestors. This intimate display of the scars of war in paintings and portraiture opens with a reception and walkthrough by the artist, starting at 1pm on Saturday. Each portrait is punctuated by birds, animals that know too well the destruction of human aggression. With ink and paper, canvas and colors, her art tells the living memoir of Vietnamese people through fleeting silhouettes. Her images exhibit light to illuminate the beautiful faces in her portraits. Open through Sept 4.
