As San Jose spring gives way to San Jose summer, we start to see changes in the world around us everywhere we go. The concrete becomes scalding, the traffic to Santa Cruz becomes unbearable and for four blisteringly hot days the pink wigs and large cardboard weapons of cosplayers will take over the streets of downtown. A staple of the North American anime convention circuit for almost three decades, Fanime is an important part of Bay Area nerd life and each year the community is rejuvenated by its return. There will be shopping, music, events, day drinking and an unmistakable feeling of magic in the air this weekend.
