So, apparently Mexico has its own Monterrey, and from this Monterrey comes 3BallMTY (pronounced “Tribal Monterrey”), a DJ collective that came together in 2009. DJ Sheeqo Beat and DJ Otto took their name from the Spanish word “tribal,” referring to the culture of guaracha music. Originating in Colombia, guaracha takes the trumpets, tambora drums and accordions of cumbia music and adds fast, driving and, most importantly, danceable beats. Guaracha is immensely popular throughout the Spanish-speaking world and is growing beyond silly man-made borders, as is 3ballmty, now selling out shows through the US.
