MACLA presents Oakland-based artist Jet Martínez, whose bright, blossoming murals regale walls as far as Java, Oaxaca and Zurich, as well as Miami and New Orleans. Born in Veracruz, Mexico, to an English-German mother, Martínez immigrated to the United States at 14. The artist’s bold color choices for his flora and fauna are inspired by traditional Mexican folk art. This exhibition features work five years in the making, including quieter, muted pieces created during the pandemic, along with the decorative design that marks his style. Featuring 20 works in total, “Arbolito” opens on First Friday and runs through Aug. 10.
