.City Lights Presents Fun Home

A death in the family can stir up many emotions, including at least a few unexpected ones. In the musical Fun Home, a City Lights production premiering Thursday, graphic novelist and protagonist Alison dives into her relationship with her father following his untimely passing. Based on playwright Alison Bechdel’s own experiences, the play gives insight to what an adult child understands of their parents as they grow into an adult themselves. Bechdel (perhaps best known for her eponymous test) leads us through these honest and looming feelings throughout the work, with refreshing takes that make its place as a Pultizer finalist all the more apparent.
