There’s no band as cosmopolitan as Gogol Bordello. Formed in New York City’s Lower East Side in 1999 by lead singer/guitarist Eugene Hütz, who was born in Ukraine, Gogol Bordello collects musicians like the United Nations collects countries. Its past and present members range from Ecuador to the United States, from Russia to Brazil. A fitting approach, as Gogol Bordello plays a quasi-punk rock style of music that’s both timely and timeless, offering up a gypsy atmosphere that combines dub, folk, polka and other disparate genres to create a unique, compelling and raucous sound. This novel approach has earned Gogol Bordello a legion of fans and critical acclaim.
