The Buena Vista Social Club has been a musical institution since the 1960s. Named after the members’ club of the same name in the Buenavista quarter of Havana, Cuba, the group brought together dozens of musicians to showcase the distinctly Cuban genres of son, bolero and danzón. Led by trombonist, composer and bandleader Jesús “Aguaje” Ramos, select members of the original social club have come together as The Buena Vista Orchestra to give audiences across the world a taste of those warm Havana nights. Besides being featured in an Academy Award-winning documentary, the group has become arguably the greatest Cuban music project in history, selling over 50 million records worldwide.
