Valerie Fridland in Menlo Park

Everyone has an accent, and the sounds uttered reveal a lot of each person’s story. In Why We Talk Funny, linguist Valerie Fridland explores the evolution of human speech, why accents develop, and how they shape our lives. Pulling from additional fields of psychology and history, she employs her signature humor and captivating anecdotes to uncover their power. Fridland is also the writer of Psychology Today’s popular language blog, “Language in the Wild.” She will be in conversation with educator and podcast host Matt Abrahams, who received Stanford GSB’s Alumni Teaching Award for his global lectures in strategic communication.
