Cuentos highlights the heart-wrenching stories of Mexican immigrants and farmworkers who continued to work during the pandemic. Composer Héctor Armienta shapes their real-life experiences into a staged song cycle. This opera is produced by Opera Cultura in collaboration with Teatro Alebrijes, under the co-directorship of Rodrigo García and Ugho Badhú. Cuentos’ cast features musicians, actors, and community members, including tenor Sergio González, soprano Stephanie Ortiz, and mezzo-soprano Rosa Aranda. As described by Armienta: “This work is intended for the community and those that want to celebrate the contributions of all immigrants—including those in our own families.”
