Los Calderones in San Jose

Founded in 2020 by Cuban-born trombonist Obrayan Calderon, the Bay Area ensemble folds salsa, Latin jazz and funk into Afro-Cuban rhythms, then adds the street-level lift of a New Orleans second line. Romantic boleros can give way quickly to percussion-heavy originals such as “¡Dale Mambo!,” “Veneno” and “La Rumba Te Llama,” making the group’s range feel purposeful rather than decorative. DJ Leydis opens this free, all-ages Levitt Pavilion concert, turning St. James Park into an outdoor dance floor built around rhythm, community and motion.
