Subtlety was never likely to pay W.A.S.P.’s lighting bill. Blackie Lawless brings the “1984 to Headless” tour to San Jose Civic, revisiting the band’s first four albums with a stage production designed to bring their cover art to life. That stretch runs from the self-titled debut through The Headless Children, tracing a band whose theatrical excess could occasionally obscure just how sturdy the songs were underneath it. Special guest KK’s Priest adds another substantial helping of heavy metal to the evening. Four decades later, the catalog still offers plenty of evidence that restraint would have been a terrible career move.
