William Shakespeare wrote A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the 1590s. The comedy inspired a raft of adaptations, and its influence extended to other creative disciplines. Felix Mendelssohn composed music for the play in the 1800s. In a similar vein, Tchaikovsky applied his creativity toward a Fantasy Overture for Romeo and Juliet. This special concert features the San Francisco Symphony with conductor Nicolas Ellis performing those beloved works along with similarly-themed works by Wagner, Franz Waxman and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Violinist Geneva Lewis is a featured performer. A second performance will be held on Friday July 17 at Davies Symphony Hall.
