British playwright Nick Payne’s Constellations is a powerful two-person play centered around the romance between Marianne (a physicist) and Roland (a beekeeper). Themes of love and death are explored alongside discussions of cosmology, quantum mechanics, string theory and the multiverse, woven into the dialogue and reflected in the very structure of the play itself, which has the effect of pulling the audience in and making it a head-trip-level immersive experience. Constellations has been translated and performed around the world, including in Kyiv in 2019, Jakarta in 2024, and in 2015, the Chinese-language premiere in Beijing utilized 13 cameras to create a “stage-movie.” Performances go until July 20.
