.Frunkyman in San Jose

Here’s a riddle: Someone donates an old delivery truck to an esteemed jazz organization. What does the organization do? This happened to San Jose Jazz; naturally, they made the truck into a rolling music venue. The SJZ Boombox Truck stops at the Gordon Biersch Night Market this Thursday with Miguel Leyva, aka Frunkyman, aboard. Winner of the 2022 San Jose Jazz New Works Award, this maestro of funk describes himself as “a fictional extraterrestrial character unintentionally marooned on Earth.” His single “The Frunk Is Real” (streaming June 8) promises to be high energy and out-of-this-world.
